August 31, 2013..Today we took a detour from our planned route and went to Eagle Butte, SD. We were told at a visitor's center there was a Pow Wow being held this weekend in Eagle Butte. We decided on the spur of the moment to check out the Pow Wow, especially since we had not been to one. We are sure glad we didn't miss it. If you have not been to a Pow Wow and have seen a Grand Entrance, I would recommend going to one if you have the opportunity. It was a spectacular sight. There were 592 dancers in full dress participating. We are spending the night on the reservation beside the arena where the Pow Wow is being held. There are other campers here and it is quite comfortable. It is neat to be here in the camper now preparing for bed while we hear the chants and the drums from the Pow Wow that is still going on. Below are some photos I made.

The photo in the top right of the young girl is absolutely stunning. I could pick her up and hug her from daylight to dark and beyond.
ReplyDeleteThey are amazing. Shawn and I went to one in Cherokee and the Military was invited to join. I joined with them in the opening ceremony and danced around the circle as they all came out. Simply beautiful.
